Pete Ackerley, Chief Executive of the British American Football Association (BAFA) has expressed his delight at the announcement that Flag Football will feature as a sport at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028. Great Britain is currently the number one ranked European team in Women’s Flag with GB men rank fifth. GB girls U17s are also reigning European Champions.

Speaking to the media Ackerley said: “We have been committed to developing the sport in the UK for many years and recognise the profile that the Olympic spotlight will bring gives us a springboard to further grow the sport in this country across schools and sports clubs. We have embarked on a comprehensive strategic plan to develop and promote Flag Football in the UK over the next four years and beyond. This initiative is focused on nurturing talent, expanding grassroots programmes, and enhancing the overall Flag Football experience for enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

“The Great British Flag Football women’s team has already demonstrated its prowess by securing the top spot in Europe this summer. Their remarkable victory at the IFAF European Flag Championships in Limerick not only demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork but also highlighted the dedication of our athletes and coaches.”
