East Kilbride Pirates announced their return to the Premiership in convincing fashion with a 50-12 victory over Cambridgeshire Cats in the Division 1 Championship.

The Pirates blasted their way out of the blocks when Struan Bailey collected the opening kick from the Cat’s Michael Johnson and ran 90 yards for a touchdown at the very start.

They went on the amass an unanswered 21 points in the first quarter alone.

The Cats were given scant opportunity to get a foothold in the game, but did have a glimmer of hope with a touchdown in the third quarter.

But it was too little too late as EKP went for the jugular and further extended their lead before Cambridgeshire scored a late consolation touchdown in the fourth quarter.
