In an exciting culmination of the regular season, U16 playoffs are set to take place this Saturday – providing a platform for the top performing teams in the UK to showcase their skills and compete for a chance to progress to the U16 Britbowl final or the U16 plate championship on Saturday 5 August at Loughborough University.
In a new addition to the calendar this year, the playoff round also offers an additional tournament opportunity for all participants.
The northern playoff will be held in Leyland hosted by the Chorley Buccaneers, while the southern playoff will take place in Nuneaton hosted by the Nuneaton Jaguars. Both hosting clubs have qualified for post-season action, adding an extra layer of anticipation. The finalists from last year’s U16 championship final have also emerged as the number one scoring teams in their respective regions, further intensifying the competition.
In the north, last year’s U16 championship runners-up Highland Wildcats have dominated with their impressive offensive prowess and have secured the #1 seed. Ranking as the number one offense they’re also the only team with an 8-0 record headed into post season. Their ability to consistently put points on the board has made them a formidable force and they’ve also excelled on the defensive side too – earning the title of number one defense in the region.
In the south, last year’s U16 Britbowl Champions Rushmoor Knights have claimed the top spot for offense as their offensive firepower has been unmatched. Meanwhile, hosts and #1 seed Nuneaton Jaguars have showcased their defensive tactics by holding opposing teams at bay and finished the regular season as number one defense in the south.
With such strong performances from these teams throughout the season, all eyes will be on them as they face off in what promises to be an exhilarating day of football and look to progress to the finals.
