BAFA has secured significant funding to develop ten talented young athletes on a two-year Flag Football development programme. The athletes – aged 16-19 – will be recruited to study towards the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) via Loughborough College after Chief Executive, Pete Ackerley secured Sport England cash to facilitate the programme.
The grant allows BAFA to appoint a DiSE Flag American Football Lead who will be tasked with delivering the Level 3 Diploma. The successful candidate will be set the initial task of identifying the athletes, who will receive both academic and sport-based learning across the duration of the course.
CEO, Pete Ackerley said: “Flag Football is gaining momentum and we as a Governing Body are leading its growth in various ways, not least by ensuring that pathways for the development of talented, young athletes are open.
“We made a compelling case to Sport England to support us in the goal – and we are now reaping the rewards of our proactive strategy of lobbying and engagement with the government as part of our efforts to develop the game and professionalise British American Football.”
