With amber warnings of extreme heat forecast around the UK this weekend, it’s never been more timely to highlight the importance of taking care while training and competing in warm weather. This includes but is not limited to ensuring good sun protection is in place and should be considered by players, coaches, support staff and referees alike.
Eleanor Travis and Beverley Analuwa from BAFA’s Sport Science and Medicine Committee have shared some simple preventative guidance that can be put in place to reduce the risk of heat-related illness. You can find these here: Training and Competing in the Heat.
We’re also proud to be partnering with the Melanoma Fund as part of their Sunguarding in Sport campaign. They’ve created some American football specific sun protection guidance for us and also offer a wealth of general advice and resources on sun protection in sport and for children. Find out more here: The Melanoma Fund and BAFA.
You can also find both of these pages directly from our homepage under the ‘about BAFA’ section.
The NHS also offer useful guidance how to cope with hot weather – NHS Guidance.
