In 2007, preceding the first NFL Wembley games, the then-BUAFL setup comprised of 2,390 students playing within 42 teams. Ten seasons later saw 4,230 students playing within 81 teams, and these numbers continue to grow through our partnership with British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS).

The mixed sex competition format has three tiers culminating in two premier conferences – Prem North and Prem South. Teams compete in a regular season to qualify for a post-season playoff competition, gaining promotion or relegation each year.

Student football registration
Players register for student football through BUCS Play, as with every other BUCS sport.

Coaches and staff still register for student football through the BAFA registration system. Coaches and staff may look to register on BUCS Play as well if they are assigned responsibility for submitting Team Sheets for each fixture.
