National Leagues playoff venues and schedule confirmed

Tuesday, August 2, 2016

Russ Hewitt, Director for Competitions, issues a statement on the postseason arrangements

BAFA NL have faced some huge challenges this year with securing our preferred finals dates and locations, Steve Whitter & I started booking venues on December 2015 for these upcoming playoffs.

And for a number of reasons venues have fallen through and then faces an uphill battle to actually find equally good venues availability on our preferred days and weekends.

Allianz Park was a great location for the University & Premiership Finals last year, and we have worked with the staff at Saracens, throughout the start of the year, but for both parties it was evident that Britbowl would struggle to be accommodated between the planned resurface works, Athletic meets, NFL practice venue and then the release of the Premiership Rugby schedule (in May).

Saracens had even attempted to request schedule consideration for their home games, in an attempt to squeeze in both Britbowl & the Upcoming IFAF European Group B qualifying tournament (16th & 18th Sept), but it was not too be.

Once the dates were released for Premiership rugby schedule they confirmed Saracens at home to Northampton on the 17th September, all our hard work had been for nothing so we had no other option than to look for alternate venues for our 2016 Bowl games.

We would like to thank the staff at Allianz Stadium and Saracens Rugby Club for all their time and hard work, trying to make our partnership work, and we look forward to possibly working with them again in the future.

From here BAFA NL explored other avenues for a facility that could match the quality of Allianz Park, and from our previous connection from way back in the 2010 season we again approached the staff at Worcester Warriors.

We are happy to confirm that U19 & Adult BritBowl finals will be held at Sixways Stadium, Worcester.

Sixways Stadium is the home stadium of Worcester Rugby Football Club in Worcester, England. It is currently used mostly for rugby union matches and is able to hold 12,024.

The venue played their last game on natural grass last year on 7th May, and now the Warriors venue boast a brand new 4G surface ahead of the 2016 season.

Sixways Stadium is unlike any other development in the UK. A truly inspirational multi-purpose venue which is used 24/7, 365 days of the year. Home to both Worcester Warriors and Sixways Events, the amazing 65-acre complex is now one of the country's most exciting, dynamic and versatile venues.

Situated within striking distance of junction 6 of the M5 and only a 15 minute drive from Worcester city centre, the 12,024 capacity stadium is the home of Worcester Warriors, the professional rugby union side.

Since the professional era in rugby, the stadium has undergone a number of facelifts, firstly with the new West Stand, with indoor training centre, followed by the impressive South Stand and, most recently, the state-of-the-art Slick Systems Stand which holds 6,000 people on match days.
