The British American Football Association (BAFA) can today confirm that Great Britain has formally withdrawn from the IFAF Flag World Championships in Israel.

Following detailed discussions and ongoing communication with IFAF and the Local Organising Committee, BAFA has determined that, unfortunately, the reputational, operational and logistical risks in participating in the tournament are too high.

Our highest priorities are the wellbeing of our athletes and coaches, and ensuring safe travel to and from the destination, and regrettably current conditions mean that we cannot guarantee these priorities will be met.

We understand and appreciate how disappointing this decision is to all concerned, and it has not been taken lightly.

BAFA would like to express thanks and appreciation to the Local Organising Committee for its understanding. We wish the remaining participants all the very best for the championships.

In addition, we are reviewing and investigating further games and events to ensure a high-quality programme for Great Britain Flag teams over the next 2-3 years, creating the best opportunities for our players to develop and progress. We remain completely committed to the development of Flag football at all levels within our sport.
