Great Britain Women’s Flag Football team fell to a 34-13 loss to Mexico in their third game of The World Games 2025.
After wins against Italy and Japan, the Lions knew they were going into a challenge as they faced the gold medallists of the Games’ 2022 competition.
A strong start for GB saw Jess Allen connecting with Hannah Elliott and Emily Kemp for touchdowns, going toe-to-toe with the powerhouse of Mexican flag talent. Heading into the half just one point down at 13-14, Great Britain’s young corps showed few signs of intimidation on the world stage.
The second half would paint a notably different picture, with Mexico’s talismanic quarterback Diana Flores orchestrating three touchdown drives to power her side into a commanding lead.
Defeat for Great Britain leaves them second in Group B, progressing to a Saturday quarterfinal against Austria.
Speaking after the game, touchdown scorer Hannah Elliott praised the resilience of her squad.
“It’s so surreal,” Elliott said.
“I didn’t think I’d be here at the World Games in China of all places, it’s incredible. To be a part of this team with these amazing athletes and teammates is just phenomenal.”
