The Coventry Panthers beat the Coventry Cougars 21-20 in double overtime to claim the 2025 Women’s Flag Football League (WFFL) title.

A thrilling sudden death extra-point shootout decided the 2025 WFFL season as Panthers quarterback Alice Briggs found her receiver Hannah Elliott in the end zone to seal the title.

The Panthers clutch offensive play matched that of their defensive unit, with Laura Carter making the decisive pass break-up to set up the game-winning play.

Panther and Great Britain Lion Emma Dedicoat took the honours of WFFL Finals MVP, scoring not only a touchdown and XP in the Championship Game, but coming up huge defensively at multiple points in the day.

Motherwell’s Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility was raucous as it played host to the best in British Women’s Flag Football, with players, coaches and supporters from across the nation making the trip to South Lanarkshire.

From the Highlands and North Conference, the East Kilbride Pirates (1), Manchester Titans (2), Sheffield Giants (3) and Leeds Samurai (4) qualified to appear at finals.

In the Midlands and South Conference, the nine-time champion Coventry Cougars (1), Coventry Panthers (2), Leicester Huntsmen (3) and London Flame (4) secured their place in the post-season.

While much of the attention leading into the day was on the Cougars’ search for a tenth championship, it was the Pirates quarterfinal that served up an early shock, as the Flame produced a 26-14 victory, largely through the connection of quarterback Shifa Martelly and receiver Jochebed Frimpong.

As all MSC teams progressed from the quarterfinals, the Pirates managed to end the day on a high as they won the Plate Final with a convincing 41-24 victory over the Manchester Titans.

The Championship Game delivered all of the competition the finals had promised, as the two Coventry sides traded blows and closed regular time 20-20. While the first period of overtime still couldn’t separate the sides, two moments of brilliance on each side of the ball secured silverware for the Panthers, and their sideline duly responded by storming the field to celebrate.
