Nick Keyse has been appointed as the new Head Coach for the Great Britain Men’s Flag football team. Keyse replaces stalwart Alan Young, who led GB men most recently at the European and the World Championships and whose expertise within Flag is now being channelled into the development of Flag competitions in the UK.
Keyse brings a wealth of experience from both the contact and flag football scenes in the UK, having been involved in the sport for two decades. His coaching journey includes leading the Cardiff Hurricanes to two BAFA Premiership titles as both a player and Head Coach, as well as steering the Swansea Titans University Contact Team to multiple national finals, earning recognition as a BAFCA Coach of the Year finalist in 2017.
Most recently, Keyse has been part of the GB Silvers Flag coaching staff as Offensive Coordinator since 2022, working closely with athletes at the national level. His appointment comes at a crucial time as GB prepares for the European Championships, with sights set on competing at the highest level.
Speaking on his new role, Keyse said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the GB Gold staff and to have the opportunity to lead and aid the development of flag football in the UK. I’m excited to bring my experience and energy to the role, assisting our athletes to improve and compete at the European Championships and beyond. It’s an absolute honour to support our programme’s ambition of achieving an elite level of performance on and off the field.”
Keyse’s appointment follows the news of Jack Reed being named Great Britain Women’s Flag Head Coach, with both adult national teams now concentrating on international competition in 2025 and beyond.
