Two British American football players have earned themselves invitations to the National Combine at this weekend’s Navy All American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas.
Offensive lineman Tom Conway and running back Didi Georgiou earned their spots for the National Combine at the FBU Top Gun Camp in 2024, opening up the opportunity to compete alongside the top 600 underclassmen from across the US inside San Antonio’s Alamodome.
Both Conway and Georgiou have represented Great Britain at U17 contact level, as well as competing with SGS PRiDE and the Rushmoor Knights. After winning the 2024 U19 Division One National Championship with Rushmoor, Georgiou was also named the EP Sports MVP for a dominant rushing performance.
Speaking on their invitation to the Combine, GB U17 Head Coach Mike Davies said that it reflected the hard work put in by both players.
“Both of these guys are workhorses that live in the gym and on the practice field. They’ve been leaders on and off the field for us at the GB U17’s for the last three years and will leave very big boots to fill.
“Our first night in Spain, we had been travelling all day, checked into the hotel and had dinner – I come through reception and someone says there are some kids in the gym.
“I go down there fully expecting to have to tell some of our guys off for mucking about and when I get there it’s just Tom Conway running an impromptu stretching session and light lift with the OL. Honestly he is one of the hardest working guys I’ve ever coached and he deserves this opportunity so much.
“Didi put the team on his back in Spain and at times, three or four defenders too, averaging 4.5 yards after contact. He might not be the most vocal of guys, but he lets his play on the field do the talking.
“Both of these guys have bright, bright futures in the sport and I can’t wait to see where this opportunity takes them.”
Great Britain U17 Contact have upcoming trials in Manchester (11 January) and Bristol (18 January). Learn more about trials registration here.
