The Great Britain Flag Football programme has appointed lead coaches to a new U21 Men’s team, in addition to Interim Head Coach and Team Manager positions for Great Britain’s Youth teams.

Former Great Britain Women’s Flag player Kellie Barrett has been appointed U21 Men’s Head Coach, joined by Offensive Coordinator Jay Ballamy and Defensive Coordinator Robyn McCluskey to lead the new national side.

Established to ensure that younger players are better prepared for competitive international play, Barrett commented that the U21 Men’s Flag team is focussed on building a pipeline of talent in the sport.

“It’s all about developing skills and teamwork early, to build the programme and support the athletes all the way through”, she added.

In addition, Barrett has been appointed Interim Head Coach of Great Britain’s Youth programme, allowing a smooth transition of British youth players to the programme’s adult teams.
“I’m incredibly honoured to take on the role of Head Coach for Great Britain’s Youth flag football team,” Barrett said.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to not only develop the skills and talents of our young athletes but also to grow the sport across the nation. My goal is to build a team that embodies teamwork, discipline, and a relentless competitive spirit while representing Great Britain with pride on the international stage.
“A key focus of mine will be creating a bridge between the youth and adult GB setups, ensuring a seamless pathway for our players to continue their development and transition into the senior level. By fostering this connection, we can build a stronger, unified program that supports athletes at every stage of their journey in the sport.”
Great Britain Youth Flag operations will be managed by Danika Taylor, who has been appointed as Interim Youth Team Manager.
“Having coached flag football in schools across Manchester with the NFL, I’m especially excited to work closely with our young athletes and their parents to support and prepare them for competing at the elite standard,” Taylor commented.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to build a foundation for success and pride in representing Great Britain.
“2025 is shaping up to be an incredible year for flag football as we embark on our Olympic journey to LA2028. My focus is on building strong structures and support systems throughout our programmes, ensuring that every athlete’s journey and development are at the heart of what we do.”
