The Great Britain Women’s National programme have announced their match-day squad for the upcoming IFAF European Championship fixture against Finland at Sixways Stadium in Worcester.

The Lions final match of the IFAF European Tackle Championship kicks off at 5pm on Saturday 17 August, in a venue where the Great Britain have fond recent memories, beating Sweden 40-0 in front of 800 plus fans on their last visit.

Commenting ahead of the fixture, Great Britain linebacker Bethany Pilkington emphasised the importance of playing on home soil.

She said: “It’s a home game, it means a lot.

“We deserve more than second, we know we do, but it would prove that all the work we’ve been putting in is worth it.

“Doing it on home soil in front of friends and family is really important to us. Being able to give back to your friends and supporters is a big moment.”

Reflecting on the squad’s time together since their defeat to tournament champions Spain in April, Pilkington reiterated the programme’s desire to end their 2023-24 competition with a statement.

“Having a refresh, going back to our playbooks, to our training, levelling ourselves back out and being ready to play Finland is a big deal for us. We want to go out with a a bang.

“I need to start thinking that it might be my last home game ever. I want to make sure that I’m proving to everyone that’s helped me why I’m still here and in this position. As a team we want to prove that we can win, and we will win, and we deserve that second place.”
