Great Britain Lions U19 defeated the Irish Wolfhounds U19 35-8 at Energia Park on Friday evening as part of the 2024 Global Ireland Football Tournament.
A pair of rushing touchdowns from Great Britain running back Simon Olaifa set the tone for the Lions in the game’s first half, while backfield partner Nebechi Abana and quarterback Corey Badry kept momentum with the ball for the traveling side.
A quiet second quarter saw the Great Britain U19 defense frustrate their hosts, setting up a second half in which head coach Scott Rowe unleashed an offensive barrage through the air. The Wolfhounds found the end-zone just once during the game, with Joseph Carroll and Patrick Duffy connecting for a score.
After the break, British quarterback Reece Aris delivered a pair of touchdowns to receivers Arran McDonald and Daniel Obi, before Marcus Cownley found receiver Tom Hambleton for the evening’s final score, bringing the result to 35-8.
Next weekend brings the finale of the British American Football U19 Contact Division One, with the Rushmoor Knights taking on the Nottingham Caesars at Coventry’s Butts Park Arena. All profits from the game’s ticket sales will go towards the Great Britain U19 programme, so make sure to book your tickets now!
