Great Britain Women succumbed to a narrow defeat against Germany in the IFAF Women’s European Championship – losing 23-22 in Solingen.

The Lions made an electric start racing to a 15-0 lead with two touchdowns by Siobhan Walker, but the momentum changed when their shellshocked hosts finally got out of the starting blocks – finding their rhythm to take charge in the second quarter to repair the earlier damage. Two touchdowns gave the German side a one point lead into the break.

The interval did enable Great Britain to slow the momentum of their hosts – and they once again got their noses in front in the third quarter with Angelina Fisher scoring a rushing touchdown to take the score to 22-15.

But Germany once again proved resilient, restoring a slender lead – which led to a nerve jangling conclusion to the match from which either team could have claimed victory and will leave GB ruing a missed opportunity
