Thank you for being part of British American Football in 2021. Whether as a player, a coach, a club volunteer or a parent or guardian, your support and contribution to our game has been hugely valued by us all.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to BAFA’s amazing volunteers who have given so much of their time and energy this year. Quite simply, our organisation would not run without you.

Despite another challenging year, I am immensely proud of how the whole game came together during 2021 to get football played. Your passion and commitment were evident, as always, and this can only give us renewed optimism for the 2022 season ahead.

Covid-19 – please remain cautious
We’re still contending with the challenge of Covid-19, and while there are currently no major restrictions on outdoor amateur sport, I urge you all to continue to be extra cautious when planning and undertaking any activity in the new year. Please make sure you follow our Covid-19 guidance at all times.

We will continue to keep a watching brief on any updates from the UK and devolved governments. We’re already aware of fresh restrictions from the Welsh government on spectators at sporting events even at a community level, and rules changes in Scotland prohibiting indoor contact sport for adults until at least mid-January.  We’re awaiting updated guidance from Sport Wales and sportscotland reflecting these changes and when this is available, we will update our own Covid-19 protocols and information accordingly.

Looking ahead
Despite the continuing clouds cast by the pandemic, we have much to look forward to in 2022. Our planning is progressing for a return to a competitive National Leagues 2022 season at all levels, including the return of finals events. We’re also excited by the high level of engagement we’ve build with our key stakeholders and are looking forward to further developing our partnerships with the home nation Sports Councils, NFL UK and the CFL.

On behalf of everyone at British American Football I’d like to wish you a fantastic festive season, a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2022. Please take the time to relax and recharge your batteries and spend some quality time with your families and loved ones.
