The British American Football Association (BAFA) can confirm that the Great Britain Men’s Contact team will not participate in its scheduled game against Denmark on 7 August 2021 as part of the Men’s European Championships.

This decision has been taken after careful consideration, and with player safety and welfare as the uppermost priority.

The current restrictions in place due to Covid-19 have prevented the squad from conducting any training in preparation for the game. And continued uncertainty remains around international travel in the coming weeks.

Mike Callen, BAFA Head of National Programmes, said:

“The current situation with Covid-19 restrictions means that we are unable to conduct any meaningful practice to prepare for a tough international fixture, and we believe it would not be right or fair for our players to participate in this game.

“Given the added uncertainties around international travel, we felt there was no other option but to regrettably inform Danish American Football that we cannot fulfil the fixture on 7 August.

“We have an excellent relationship with the Danish football community, and we hope this will continue.

“We will maintain our focus on training camps for potential international fixtures in Autumn, Covid restrictions permitting, and further developing our roster of talented and exciting British players for the future.”
