Workouts and national leaderboard now live ahead of 2021 BAFA Combine.

The British American Football Association (BAFA) has partnered with Archon to launch a new era of fitness resources and physical performance measurement for British American football.

BAFA wants to help create players who have a higher level of physical readiness when it comes to playing American football, as well as identifying athletes at all levels of the game.

And BAFA is now welcoming players, coaches, assistants and anyone else involved in the sport to prepare for the 2021 BAFA Combine.

8 weeks and 8 workouts

Given current lockdowns restrictions, BAFA and Archon will first be providing a series of workouts to complete over an 8-week period. The aim is help players keep conditioned – and create some competition – before returning to the field as part of our Return to Play planning.

Format and timeline

  • BAFA players can find out more and sign up to the 2021 BAFA Combine by clicking
  • The 8 workouts will be released to players each Monday from 1 March until 19 April.
  • The 20-minute workouts are based on elements that anyone can do outside of the gym environment, testing cardio, lower body and upper body.
  • Videos explaining the various exercises will be available from Archon.
  • Players can sign up at any time and will have until Sunday 25 April to complete all the workouts and submit their results.
  • A national leaderboard will be available on the Team Aretas dedicated competition platform

Later in the year, a 2021 BAFA Combine will be launched that includes movement in the gym (once everyone has access again).

Pete Ackerley, BAFA Chief Executive, said:

“The partnership with Archon provides our whole community with free access to some incredible resources, that will not only help players start preparing for return to play but will also enable us to identify leading athletes across formats.

“I encourage all of our players – and anyone else interested – to get involved with the 8 workouts over the next 8 weeks. More details on the 2021 BAFA Combine will then follow in due course.”

Matt Ford, Creator and CEO of Archon (and former Britball player), said:

Using unique algorithms, we will consider every person’s height, weight, age and gender so that everyone has a chance to compete on a truly level playing field of fitness.

“We have been conditioned into thinking that whoever crosses the finishing line first wins. In most cases this is true. But take golf, for example, which has a handicap system that means you can play with anyone else regardless of what they look like, and ultimately the winner will be the person who performs the best after 18 holes.

“We’ve taken this concept and built it into a new format of fitness competition, one where you will be measured on your performance regardless of what you look like. For the first time you will be judged solely on what you can do, and if that’s better than what someone else can do, then you win.

“The aim is to build a fully inclusive competitive environment unlike anything that’s been delivered before.”
